John Josten, born in the Chicago area in 1960, grew up watching his father Nick run a successful insurance agency. Nick Josten was one of the top Life Insurance and employee benefits agents year in and year out in the Chicago area. But while John watched Nick achieve financial and professional success, he was not always going to follow in his father`s career footsteps.

John went to University of Wisconsin- Madison on a football scholarship where he earned an undergraduate degree in marketing and finance in May of 1983 and an MBA in Finance in December of 1984. Upon getting his MBA, Ford Motor Company offered John a job in their challenging management trainee program, and John jumped at the opportunity. John became a zone manager with the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford and quickly moved through their ranks. But something was missing and John was always talking to his father about his business. The idea of working for himself and using his marketing and finance background was becoming more and more attractive.

In May of 1987, John made the decision to leave a steady salary, a company car and expense account for the uncertainty of a 100% commissioned career with his dad`s company in the insurance industry. The insurance business is legendary in its demands on new agents but the idea of being rewarded for his own hard work appealed to John.

In the Spring of 1987, John got his insurance license and began to build a practice, initially concentrating on selling life insurance to friends and family and health insurance to small businesses. Immediately, John began to study for the tough Series 7 exam which would allow him to sell securities to his clients. Upon passing the exam in October of 1987, John was qualified to solicit transactions in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and variable contracts, and offers securities as a Registered Representative of Voya Financial Advisors. John was now armed with the required licenses to offer his clients an expanded package of financial products. Now he just had to put in the time to gain the valuable experience needed to gain credibility in the competitive financial services industry. John earned his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) designation by 1993 and his ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant) designation by 1994. These advanced designations in insurance and financial consulting gave John the confidence to get into more advanced life insurance planning.

As John grew in the business he always had the mentoring of his wise and experienced father. In the financial services business, product knowledge and designations help, but the ability to communicate to clients and service them properly was learned from his father. John focuses on helping individuals in their insurance and investment needs and with helping corporations put together the most cost effective benefit plans available. And, as an independent life insurance agent, John has the ability to go to a number of sources for the best products and plans.

Today, John and his brother, Marty, run the business. John has earned a number of industry awards and has qualified for sales leader trips. But the mark of a successful financial representative is satisfied, repeat customers. John, Marty and the staff at Josten Financial put customer satisfaction first. It is their goal to service customers, not policies. John currently lives in Palatine with his wife and three daughters.

Marty is an experienced independent financial advisor with extensive experience in strategic planning, solving complex issues for business owners and professional associations since 1990.  He is recognized for his keen ability to manage costs with a focus on quality.  He thrives on creating unique solutions for business planning and employee benefits needs.  This strategic planning comprehensively extends into personal planning for income protection and wealth transfer.

Shortly after graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he went to work for his father, Nick Josten, a highly successful insurance agent running his own firm.

My Dad is a huge influence on my life.  He mentored me.  Paid me a small salary to get me started.  I sat in his office and listened as he worked with his clients and the carriers.  I helped him prepare for meetings and follow thru afterwards. He gave me an opportunity most people in this business didn’t have – experience.

By the year 2000, Nick had fully retired, and Josten Financial, an insurance, investments and employee benefits firm with its network of personal and business clients, had been sold and transitioned to his sons, John and Marty, who still run the firm today.

Marty has multiple client relationships spanning over 40 years.  He speaks generationally, helping businesses and personal clients transition successfully, just as his firm did.  These businesses have grown together like family.

The transition to Lamb, Little & Co in 2016 speaks volumes to this growth.  As Josten Financial grew, so did the need to expand our customer and administration capabilities.  Marty maintains his autonomy as an independent advisor with a larger, specialized central back office dedicated to servicing his clients’ needs.

Marty is a lifelong baseball fanatic, both on the field and off.  He was a Big Ten catcher at the U of I.  He continued passing on his passion for the game by coaching youth baseball and softball for Palatine Youth Baseball / Softball, where he also sat on their Board of Directors for over 15 years.  He is an avid hunter and fisherman.  Marty resides with his wife and three kids in Palatine, Illinois.
